Environmental Policy

On January 2003, the European Union (EU) adopted environmental directive, 2002/95/EC (RoHS), to restrict the use of hazardous substances such as Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Cadmium (Cd), Hexavalent Chromium (CR6+), Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBBs) and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs) in electrical and electronic products starting July 1st 2006.

It significantly impacts the design and manufacture of electrical and electronic products. To make sure ATP is in good position to comply with all applicable laws and regulations, we have adopted a progressive environmental policy as following:

* Commit to develop safe and RoHS compliant products and manufacturing processes by December 31st 2005 in all facilities of our business without jeopardizing quality and time-to-market.

* Require all supply chain vendors to fully comply with ATP environmental requirements and eventually eliminate the use of hazardous substances listed in RoHS in product or manufacturing process by July 1st, 2005.

* Establish effective materials management system to distinguish RoHS compliant and non compliant components during transition period. This includes alternative component references and unique marking / labeling strategy.

* Make sustainable efforts in controlling the use of other hazardous substances which have not yet restricted for use in industry, such as Antimony, Arsenic, Beryllium, Nickel, Ozone depleting chemicals, Flame retardant substances, PVC and Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBA), under allowed tolerance limits.

* Use sound management practices to achieve continual improvement in environmental protection program. Regularly measure, monitor and review our targets based on self-audit results and proactively address to changing regulations and legislations.

China RoHS Compliance

China RoHS is similar to its European counterpart in that it prohibits the use of heavy metals (Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium) and two brominated compounds (Polybrominated Biphenyls and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers). China RoHS differs in having two phases, having no exemptions, requiring marking of product to show compliance, and requiring testing of product to show conformity in implementing the second phase.

ATP is fully committed to environment protection and sustainable development and has set in place a comprehensive program, in conjunction with our customers and suppliers, for removing polluting and hazardous substances from all of its products where this is technically feasible.

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)

Under the recently introduced EU directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), producers of EEE who place product onto the EU market are obliged to identify equipment suitable for recycling and allow it to be separated from other waste streams. The "crossed out wheelie bin" symbol with a black bar beneath it denotes that the product falls within these WEEE directive guidelines and will always be found either on printed directly on the product or within the user instructions. As a producer of WEEE, ATP Electronics, Inc. must support its market share proportion of the financial burden of the collection, treatment and recycling of EEE products, and so is legally required to register with a compliance scheme.

Furthermore, ATP is launching the world's first bio-recyclable USB Drive, appropriately named the EarthDrive. With years of product development and extensive research, the EarthDrive is designed and built using the maximum amount of bio-recycled materials, resulting in a fully recyclable product.

ATP is also launching "Project: EarthDrive", a program initiated in conjunction with a partnership with American Forests, a world leader in planting trees for environmental restoration. With each EarthDrive sold, ATP will donate a portion of the profits to help plant trees in order to contribute to the efforts of offsetting our carbon footprint and restoring the environment. American Forests' Global Releaf projects allow for tree planting throughout the United States as well as on a global basis. With the start of this important program, ATP has already helped plant thousands of trees on a National and International basis.
